Dance & Performing Arts

Spotlight Academy is one of the leading dance and performing arts schools in East Staffordshire.

Established in 2003 by Angelina Socci (IDTA), the school now has more than 270 pupils aged between 2 and 18 and provides tuition in ballet, tap, modern, street and performing arts.

Dance lessons and performing arts classes are held throughout the week in Abbots Bromley, Etwall, Rolleston On Dove and Uttoxeter. We regularly review our timetable, so please feel free to get in touch to see which lessons would suit your child. You can find individual information about our dance lessons here and our performing arts classes here.

Lessons are suitable for beginners and for those with previous dance experience and are designed to develop a wide range of skills including co-ordination, self-confidence and social interaction as well as technical dance skills.

Although the emphasis is on fun and enjoyment, children have the opportunity to dance to examination standard and to take part in regular theatre productions at the Stafford Gatehouse Theatre and The Brewhouse Arts Centre.

Spotlight Academy is affiliated to the International Dance Teachers Association and all teachers carry public liability insurance and are DBS checked.

Antonia-Hayley started street dance at the age of 7 and performed in regular productions at the Regent Theatre, Stoke on Trent and took part in many competitive events, including the European UDO Street Dance Competition.

At 16, she gained a place at a theatre arts academy where she studied an eclectic mix of dance styles.

After completing her training, she began teaching at schools across Staffordshire.

Angelina Socci

Angelina’s dancing career started as a child, performing in stage and TV productions alongside legendary entertainers including Danny La Rue, Les Dawson, Larry Grayson and Bernie Winters.

As possibly one of the smallest Betty Fox babes, she learnt at an early age that dance could be fulfilling as well as great fun and this later fuelled her passion to pass on what she had learned, the ethos behind Spotlight Academy.

She has been a qualified dance teacher for over 20 years and started Spotlight Academy in 2003 alongside her career as a TV and radio journalist.

Jody began lessons in ballet, tap and modern dancing at the age of 5.

After taking her IDTA teaching exams, she completed a diploma in dance at Burton College and studied dance and sport science at Newcastle University and Staffordshire University.

Jody began teaching for Spotlight Academy in 2009 and has become an indispensable part of the school as a teacher as well as helping to plan and choreograph the shows.

She has two children and also works as a nursery nurse.
